Gomez is on loan from Irish club, Leinster |
Leeds Carnegie will be without Argentine prop Juan Gomez for Sunday's crunch National League One match against title rivals Nottingham. The 24-year-old has yet to recover from a hamstring strain, but England sevens stars Tom Biggs and Rob Vickerman are available for selection. Director of rugby Andy key told BBC Radio Leeds: "Juan is recovering very quickly, but won't make this week. "However we have yet to decide which 15 will start at Nottingham. Table-topping Leeds take their undefeated league record to third-placed Nottingham, who have yet to lose at home this season. It is a vital fortnight for the West Yorkshire side as second-placed Exeter Chiefs visit Headingley just six days after the Nottingham game. Key explained: "These are great challenges and it is about us focusing on our performance. "Our game plan will be spot on and we have to be mentally focused to do the job when we get to Nottingham. "This is what you play rugby for, to play on the big stage and in big games.
"All the hard work the players have put in so far sets them up physically and mentally right for the next two matches. Leeds beat Nottingham on the opening day of the season 34-19 at Headingley. This time around they face a side in serious financial trouble, whose players have been focused to take a pay cut. "I think if there were negatives reflections in the team due to their current problems we would have seen it by now. "I think it's done the opposite and created a better team spirit." BBC Radio Leeds will have exclusive commentary of Nottingham v Leeds Carnegie on 774 AM and DAB from 1450 GMT on Sunday.
