Luctonians were beaten but not embarrassed at Rugby |
Midlands One title chasers Luctonians were missing a dozen players but put up a battle against Rugby Lions in the EDF Energy Trophy, despite losing 24-10. Luctonians all but survived an early yellow card handed to fly-half Chris James, but just before his return, Ade Hales went over for the first try. Lions led 10-3 at half-time but Lucs levelled when James scored a penalty and Peter Smith scored a converted try. Home skipper Nash put the Lions back in front, shrugging off three defenders to score. Lucs did not give up and almost drew level before Nash sealed it for the Lions with his second try of the game, three minutes from time.
