Luctonions went three points clear after their eighth win in nine games |
Luctonians opened up a three-point gap at the top of Midlands One, thanks to a 34-6 win at home to Longton, while rivals Newport lost for the first time. Leon Mells scored two tries for the leaders, while fellow centre Cameron Hewitt, wing Pete Smith and fly-half Brett Prior also crossed. Full back Bruce Thomas landed nine points with his boot, Longton replying with two penalties. But Malvern are still without a point as they were beaten 29-0 at Hinckley. The defeat leaves Malvern rooted to the bottom and facing relegation, although league restructuring may mean they do not go down. Hereford's hopes of promotion suffered a setback as they were beaten 10-9 by leaders Burton in Midlands Two West. Colin Osbourne, with three penalties, provided all Hereford's points. Burton went to the top as Bromsgrove's game at Dudley Kingswinford was postponed.
