Vagabonds crash to league leaders

Rugby Union

Vagabonds were beaten 35-6 by league leaders Burnage in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One on Saturday.

Despite a strong start, Vagas trailed 15-6 at half-time with Jonny Beckley's boot keeping them in the hunt.

In the second-half, Burnage turned on the power and this time Vagas could not respond as the Stockport side piled on the points.

In Division Two, visitors Orrell Anvils were too strong for Douglas winning 39-8 at Port-e-Chee Meadow.

Full-back Mark Hewlett put Orrell ahead early in the game before a Bryn Snellgrove penalty closed the gap for Douglas. Orrell dominated the rest of the half and accelerated away with Max Huxley and Steve Ormesher both crossing. Geoff Gavin added a conversion and Douglas trailed 17-3 at the break.

It was more of the same in the second period with Neil Liptrot, Gary Nicholson, Ormesher and Johnny Pegg all adding tries for Orrell as they ran away with the game. Johnny Ledwidge scored a consolation try for the home side.

The result sees Douglas slide to ninth in the table as Orrell climb to seventh.

Elsewhere in Division Four, Ramsey moved joint top as they demolished Port Sunlight 45-8 at Mooragh Park.

Ramsey got off to the perfect start as Ben Harding went over in the first minute.

Aneurin Pritchard doubled the lead shortly afterwards before Port Sunlight hit back with a Jimmy Roberts drop goal.

Tynan Pritchard restored the Ramsey advantage with his first of the afternoon before Sunlight hit back again with a try from left wing Darren Thomas.

Ramsey then took charge and dominated the rest of the contest.

Nick McCudden and Adam Yates both touched down before half-time and in the second half Ramsey skipper Tynan Pritchard completed his hat-trick to round off a great result for the northerners.
