Cummins reflects on Macau GP race

The 22-year-old Manxman broke the lap record in qualifying

Isle of Man TT star Conor Cummins has reflected on the highs and lows of last weekend's Macau Grand Prix.

The 22-year-old set the lap record in an incredible second qualifying session but was forced out of the GP with mechanical problems.

"I was really chuffed with pole, I couldn't quite believe," he said.

"It was the first time I've ever used a qualifying tyre, but our race pace was very good and I felt really strong going in to the race."

He added: "I was really disappointed with the start I made, but I got up to fourth fairly quickly and with Cameron (Donald) going out I was soon up to third."

"(Stuart) Easton and (Michael) Rutter were only just ahead of me and I felt very comfortable and was confident of pulling them in."

It's been a great experience and even better to make pole in just my second time here

"But the bike suddenly felt like it had gone on to three cylinders and I had to pull in. The bike was flying up until then, so it's a real shame, but it's been a great experience and even better to make pole in just my second time here."

Making a one-off appearance for the AIM Yamaha team, Cummins was running third when he retired from the race.
