Peel win opens up five-point gap

Football

Peel defeated Laxey 2-1 at Douglas Road on Saturday to move five points clear in the Sure Mobile Premier League.

A strike from Johnny Myers and a Kevin Megson penalty gave the westerners their revenge for the defeat at the Miners earlier in the season.

Jim Travers scored the Laxey reply but it was Peel who took all three points.

With the match between St George's and St Mary's postponed, Rushen took advantage to move up to third with a comprehensive 6-1 win at Ayre United.

Neil Curphey, Paul Jones, Sean Harrison, Aaron Hawley and Tom Craine were the marksmen for in-form Rushen and there was also an own goal.

Phil Quayle notched the Tangerines' consolation.

Corinthians gained only their second victory of the season with a fine 5-2 win at Union Mills.

The star of the show was Steve Glover who hit four in a superb first-half display.

Lewis Thornton grabbed the other as Corinthians led 5-0 at the break.

David Hicks and Chris Kelly replied for the Millers in the second half but the damage had been done.

The win was not enough to move them off the bottom, but four clubs are now separated by just a solitary point.

Colby and Ramsey drew 2-2 in a closely fought match at Glen Road.

Chris McKenna struck a double for the home side with James Sayle and Danny Foulis on target for Ramsey, all the goals coming in the first half.

There was also excitement at Blackberry Lane where Old Boys finally edged out Gymns in a seven-goal thriller.

Gymns led 3-2 at the break but Old Boys secured victory thanks to goals from Callum Stewart, Craig Stewart (two) and Dean France.
