Launceston have established a new rugby side for amateur players in the area.

The club's aim is that the new team will help bridge the gap between the academy and the first XV which play in National Two.

The side, which will be managed by Simon Gilbert and Jason Ham, will be known as Launceston Amateurs and have entered the Cornwall merit table.

The team complies with a new Rugby Football Union scheme which aims to stop players leaving the sport.
