Wigan stand-off Sam Tomkins is delighted the club secured their first League Leaders Shield in a decade.

Warriors clinched the title in Sunday's win at Hull KR, after missing the first chance to take it in the 18-16 defeat by Huddersfield the previous weekend.

Tomkins told the club website: "It was a special day for us and the town.

"It's something we've been building for all year. We had a tough pre-season and we knew that if we played well then we'd have a chance of some silverware."

The 21-year-old added: "We've been good at kicking on when teams have stuck with us and we've made teams struggle to keep up with us at times this season."

Looking ahead to the Warriors final home game of the regular season Tomkins added: "We don't want to finish with a loss.

"We want to take home a good win so we can enjoy picking up that shield at the DW."
