Warrington Wolves coach Tony Smith hopes the atmosphere can add to the occasion when his side face Super League leaders Wigan on Friday.

Smith's side are four points behind Warriors, and will be looking to avenge the 22-20 defeat they suffered in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Smith told BBC Radio Manchester: "Sometimes the atmosphere on the night can take things to a different level.

"But for me personally I try to blank that out until after the game."

He added: "You can sense sometimes an atmosphere can add to an occasion but any game's as important as any other.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's any other game but they are all important and they are all exciting for me."

On Sunday, second-place Warrington ran in nine tries to beat Castleford 54-30 while Wigan thrashed league strugglers Salford 60-10.

"They [Wigan] have played some really good rugby league at times this year and so have we.

"It was one of the best matches of the year last time we played them. They won and deserved to win and hopefully it's that close again as that's what rugby league is about."

Warrington have lost just five of their 21 games so far this season, but Smith admitted they have sometimes struggled against other leading sides.

"Well we haven't been good enough when we've played them on those occasions. I can put my hand up and say my team on those occasions haven't been quite good enough."
