Millard is the Wildcats' fourth signing of the summer |
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have signed Fiji centre Daryl Millard on a two-year deal from Canterbury Bulldogs. The 24-year-old will make the switch from the NRL in time for the 2010 Super League campaign. Coach John Kear said: "We saw off competition from other Super League clubs for his signature. "We believe Daryl has his best years ahead of him and he is a major and exciting capture for our club," the Wildcats boss added. "Daryl is a player who burst onto the scene for St George Illawarra Dragons and I have followed his career with great interest ever since. "When it became apparent that he was to become available owing to the outstanding form of Josh Morris and Jamal Idris at the Bulldogs, we were delighted to be able to secure his services." | It was important for me to go to a club that is going to be successful |
Millard has made 60 first grade appearances and one of his 20 career tries came for the Dragons in their 28-0 NRL semi-final play-off win over Manly Sea Eagles. He represented Fiji in the 2008 World Cup, appearing in three of their games as they reached the semi-final stage. On his move to Super League, Millard said: "The club is heading in the right direction and it was important for me to go to a club that is going to be successful. "I have been impressed with Wakefield's progress and that is one of the main reasons I chose to come to the club."
