Wilkes is Harlequins second signing of the season |
Harlequins have signed second-row Oliver Wilkes from head coach Brian McDermott's old club Wakefield. The 29-year-old has signed a two-year deal at the Twickenham Stoop, making him the club's second new signing in the space of a week. Wilkes moves to London after two years with the Wildcats, following spells at Huddersfield and Wigan. He was a member of Scotland's World Cup squad last year, and scored the winning try in their victory over Fiji. Wilkes told the club's official website: "I'm very excited about my move to London with Harlequins. I've been an admirer of Brian McDermott for a long time now and the set up at the club is first class. "I'm looking forward to furthering my own career and helping to develop rugby league in London." He joins fellow new arrival Ryan Esders who signed a permanent contract with Quins earlier this week after a successful loan spell from Hull Kingston Rovers. Head coach Brian McDermott added: "Wilkes has been a consistent performer in Super League for a number of years and we're very pleased he's chosen Harlequins. "In Wilkes we have signed a very athletic and fit player to add to our already hard-working pack."
