Former Wakefield winger Gary Thornton has returned to Belle Vue as the club's new reserve team coach. The 46-year-old, who resigned as Batley head coach six weeks ago, played for the club from 1986 to 1990 and replaces former Hunslet boss Roy Sampson. Thornton said: "I was very disappointed with how things turned out at Batley and I have been looking for an opportunity to get back into coaching. "When John Kear contacted me I jumped at the chance to get back involved."
