Hull Kingston Rovers second-row forward Clint Newton is battling to be fit to play at St Helens on Friday night. The Australian has a calf injury but Rovers coach Justin Morgan is hoping the former Melbourne Storm Grand Final winner will pass a late fitness test. He told BBC Radio Humberside: "His injury has improved dramatically over the last 48 hours and he has a chance. "If he continues to improve at this rate he'll play but we'll know a little bit more closer to the game day." Newton picked up the injury during the Robins' 18-10 home defeat against Leeds last Friday at Craven Park and Morgan said he is the sort of player his side needs against St Helens. | Clint is an important player for us but if he's out then I'll have to find a new front rower Hull KR coach Justin Morgan |
"Clint is an important player for us but if he's out then I'll have to find a new front rower because I'll probably have to switch Jason Netherton back to the second row," he said. Rovers' other main injury doubt is winger Liam Colbon who has a hip injury while stand-off Paul Cooke is already ruled out with a wrist injury. Chaz I'Anson will deputise for him as the Robins look to end St Helens' 100% start to Super League XIV.
