Giants look to cash in on final

Thewlis is keen to get more fans into the Galpharm Stadium

Huddersfield Giants chief executive Richard Thewlis says the club must use their Challenge Cup final appearance to attract new fans.

The Giants meet Warrington at Wembley on Saturday, 29 August - their second final in four years.

"This is a huge boost for us, but it's how we use this opportunity and move forward that is even more vital," Thewlis told the Super League Show.

"We need to sell this club to the people of West Yorkshire."

The Giants lost to St Helens in the 2006 final at Twickenham, but 2009 will see them play at Wembley for the first time since 1962.

"Getting to the final is huge for us, the whole town is buzzing and the atmosphere around the town is something we have never known before in the modern times," said Thewlis

"When we got to the final in 2006 we had 14,000 go to Twickenham. Since then this club has grown and I'm confident we'll take many more down to Wembley this time.

"In terms of the club's development we have got a lot of decisions right in the last few years, including our cheap season ticket deal and obviously the appointment of our coach Nathan Brown.

This club, relatively speaking, has not had any success for many, many years, so we do need to be reaching events like these semi-finals and finals and fighting high in the league.

"Our current success is down to a lot of hard work and a lot of little, and some big, decisions being right and all coming together.

"What we have to do again is use the Wembley experience to keep building the club and make us even stronger.

"This club, relatively speaking, has not had any success for many, many years, so we do need to be reaching events like these semi-finals and finals and fighting high in the league.

"That's what people want to get behind and helps the development of the club.

"We have to get more season tickets and fill this big Galpharm Stadium and we want more sponsors and partners.

"This is our day in the light and we must use it."
