Huddersfield Giants caretaker coaches Paul Anderson and Keiron Purtill have said they do not want the job on a permanent basis.

The pair, in joint charge following the sacking of Jon Sharp, face their first game on Sunday against Wakefield.

"I don't want to put my hand up at this time, I believe I'm too inexperienced," Anderson told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I don't want to come in and make a fool of myself and embarrass the club, I know I'm not ready yet."

Anderson, 35, retired from playing in 2006 to take up a coaching role at the Giants for the start of Super League XII.

The prop formerly played for Leeds Rhinos, Bradford Bulls and St Helens.

He added: "I may be 12 months or two years away from being ready for such a job.

"It may be a case in two years time I'd want the job but when I'm ready I'll stick my hand up and say I want it."
