Hudson sorry over Portugal arrest
Ryan Hudson
Hudson's ban does not expire until midnight on Saturday
Ex-England A hooker Ryan Hudson was arrested but cleared of all charges after a night out on Huddersfield's training camp in Portugal last week.

The 27-year-old, who is set to return from a two-year drugs ban for the new club, was involved in a minor fracas.

Hudson paid his own way to Portugal to bond with his new team-mates, despite being prohibited from training with his new club until midnight on Saturday.

"I have now been cleared of all charges and returned to the UK," said Hudson.

"I apologise most sincerely to Huddersfield Giants and to my family for the embarrassment caused.

"I personally booked a flight to travel out to Vilamoura in Portugal.

The conduct of the Giants players has been grossly overstated

"The idea was to socialise with some of my new team-mates when they had some time off over the weekend.

"On the night of 13 January I was out with a few of the players.

"A few problems occurred on the night out which led to me being arrested."

Huddersfield team manager Stuart Sheard said: "It was something and nothing. Ryan didn't appear in court. He went to the court building to see a clerk and clear all charges.

"There was some damage to the wing mirror of a car which Ryan paid for and there was some pushing with a policeman but he didn't want to pursue the matter."

Sheard insisted that no other players were involved in the incident.

Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis said that preliminary inquiries into the allegations showed that "the conduct of the Giants players has been grossly overstated and inaccurately reported and talk of drunken exploits could not be further from the truth".

Giants coach Jon Sharp said Hudson's actions will not prevent him making his first appearance for the club in Sunday's pre-season friendly against Wigan at the Galpharm Stadium.

"As far as we're concerned, it's business as usual," he said. "The whole incident has obviously upset the players but it has not caused any disruption in terms of our training programme.

"Because of Ryan's ban, he hasn't been allowed to work with us so it has not affected anything we've been doing."

Hudson was sacked by his previous club Bradford after testing positive for the banned steroid stanozolol.
