Hudson will not be allowed to train with his new team until January |
Ryan Hudson has announced he will return to rugby league with Huddersfield when he completes his two-year drugs ban early next year. The former Wakefield and Castleford hooker was handed the suspension in March 2005 after testing positive for the banned steroid stanozolol.
The 26-year-old had just signed a three-year deal with Bradford, who subsequently cancelled the contract.
He said: "These last two years have been a roller-coaster ride."
The suspension was back-dated to when the offence came to light, and Hudson will be free to resume his career on 21 January.
He has agreed a three-year contract with Huddersfield, for whom he made his professional debut in 1998.
"Two years ago, when I received the ban, I thought it was the worst day of my life," said the former England Under-21 captain.
"Now I would say it was a massive turning point in my life, for the better. I've done a lot of soul-searching deep within myself.
"I made a mistake. I trusted someone and paid the consequences. I was stupid, irresponsible and totally naive.
"I believe everyone makes mistakes, but only fools make them twice. I'm certainly not going to be that fool."
Hudson intends to work with the game's governing body, the RFL, and UK Sport on an education programme for youngsters.
"We know how good Ryan can be and we think he can become a better player than he was two years ago," said Giants coach Jon Sharp.
"He's suffered for two years. He has paid his dues and he is looking to help others. I think that's a massive indicator of his attitude."
