Bradford have terminated the contract of hooker Ryan Hudson with immediate effect following his drugs ban. The 25-year-old was suspended for two years by the Rugby Football League on Wednesday after testing positive for banned steroid stanozolol in December.
Hudson has launched an appeal against the length of the suspension but the Bulls have decided to act quickly.
"We have always taken a rigorous stand on this issue," said Bulls chairman Chris Caisley.
"We have also been involved in many Drugs Awareness campaigns both in the local community and beyond.
"As a consequence, our approach, which we firmly believe other clubs should also adopt, is one of zero tolerance.
"We are saddened for Ryan Hudson and the dreadful impact his action has had on a burgeoning career, but our position on these matters is absolutely definite and he left us with no room for manoeuvre." Hudson joined Bradford from Castleford in the close season on a three-year deal but has yet to play for his new club.
He pleaded guilty at Wednesday's RFL tribunal but will contest the length of the ban.
The suspension has been backdated to last month and he will not be eligible to play until 21 January, 2007.
