Higgins joined the Tigers from Hull FC at the end of the 2006 season |
Castleford Tigers have confirmed the departure of three long-serving first-team squad members. Wing Michael Wainwright, prop Liam Higgins and back-row Ryan Clayton leave the Tigers having played over 300 games for the club between them. Tigers head coach Terry Matterson said: "I'd like to thank Michael, Liam and Ryan for their terrific service for the club over the past four years. "In the past three seasons they have been integral members of our squad." Matterson continued: "I'm grateful for their efforts since they have been here. I'd like to wish them all the best for the future." Wainwright scored 40 tries in 104 appearances at the Jungle and has joined Championship side Dewsbury Rams for the 2011 season. Higgins joined the Tigers in 2007 and made 105 appearances, while Clayton originally joined the club in 2004 before returning to the squad in 2007 after spells at Huddersfield and Salford. All three players starred in the club's promotion-winning display in the 2007 National League Grand Final at Headingley. The departures follow Michael Shenton and Mitchell Sargent's exits from the club, while full-back Richard Mathers, half back/hooker Danny Orr and winger Nick Youngquest have joined for the 2011 season.
