Tigers director Hindle to retire

Philip Hindle
Hindle has been with the Tigers for 31 years

Castleford Tigers director Philip Hindle is to step down at the club's AGM in September.

Castleford born Hindle was first appointed to the board in 1978 and was the club's chairman for four years between 1995 and 1999.

"It has been a wonderful experience for me and I have been honoured to have served my home town club, and rugby league, for so long," said Hindle.

"Although I am stepping down, I will remain a keen fan of the Tigers."

As well as a Castleford board member, Hindle has also been the club's representative on the Rugby League Council for 14 years, including holding the Presidency in 2005, only the second time that a Castleford director has been so honoured.

Hindle added: "Inevitably over such a period there have been highs and lows and I would have to say that the last minute defeat at the hands of London in the 1999 Challenge Cup semi final was the low.

"The high was our avoiding relegation in 1997 at a time when I was the club chairman.

Castleford chairman Jack Fulton said: "On behalf of myself and his colleagues on the board, I would like to thank and pay tribute to Philip for his contribution to the club and to the game in general.

"He has served the Tigers loyally for many years and has played his part in steering us through some difficult times as well as being able to enjoy some of our successes.

"He has also very ably represented our club as a member of the Rugby League Council for many years and I'm sure that they will be paying their own tribute.

"And to mark his time and service to the Tigers, the board are very pleased to make him a Life Member of the Castleford club and we look forward to keeping in touch with him at the Jungle for many years to come."
