Shenton has scored seven tries this season

Former Super League star Iestyn Harris says Castleford's improvement is down to the success of their academy.

The Tigers are currently eighth, after finishing bottom last season, and have had Michael Shenton and Joe Westerman called up to the England squad.

"The youth coming through is so important to that club," Harris told the BBC's Super League Show.

"They are now much more consistent and that is down to the young talent that is coming through."

Shenton scored in Friday night's last-minute 24-22 defeat at home by Leeds Rhinos, while Westerman has been an outstanding performer all season.

Harris explained: "They've had up-and-down seasons for so long now, but with the young lads now developing they are so much stronger.

"The club is doing a great job in bringing those youngsters through.

"Michael Shenton is playing extremely well, he has had a great season so far and is a quality player."
