Faumuina played his last game for the Cowboys against Cronulla |
Castleford Tigers' new signing Sione Faumuina has been charged with wilful damage and disorderly conduct following his arrest in a Brisbane nightclub. The 27-year-old New Zealand Test player is alleged to have thrown a glass at a mirror at the club. Faumuina, who has agreed a one-year deal at The Jungle, will appear in court in Brisbane on 25 September. Meanwhile, Tigers have signed former Featherstone centre James Ford, 26, on a one-year deal from Sheffield Eagles. Faumuina is due to join the Tigers from the North Queensland Cowboys at the start of next season, but it is uncertain whether that will now be put on hold. Tigers spokesman David Smart told BBC Radio Leeds: "We need to find out the full facts before making any comment." It is the latest in a series of incidents that have dogged the career of the ex-Canberra and New Zealand Warriors utility player. Faumuina was sacked by the Warriors in 2006 after a series of breaches of the club's alcohol code and he was given a final warning by the Cowboys after rolling his car in a single-vehicle accident earlier this year. | James Ford is a player who has gone very well in the National Leagues and he has shown enough to suggest to us that he can step up another level Tigers coach Terry Matterson on new signing James Ford | Cowboys chief executive officer Peter Parr said: "We are really disappointed that he has let the Cowboys down once released from his obligations. "If he was still our player he would have been terminated immediately based on the terms and conditions applied to him previously. "We are clearly disappointed that after all the assistance we have given him over the past two years, our reward is this sort of behaviour." Faumuina failed to impress during a three-match stint with Hull at the end of the 2005 season and famously then signed a three-year contract with Harlequins only to leave for personal reasons without playing a game on the eve of the 2007 season. Fellow new Tigers signing Ford has impressed with the Eagles in the National League and said he was excited by the challenge now facing him at Castleford. "I'm happy to have been given this opportunity. I know that it is going to be a big step up but I'll be surrounded by the right people. Now I just want to get on with the job in front of me and I'll be looking to do my talking on the pitch," he said. Tigers coach Terry Matterson said: "James Ford is a player who has gone very well in the National Leagues and he has shown enough to suggest to us that he can step up another level."
