Bottom club Leigh earned a draw against play-off hopefuls Hull following an impressive comeback at the Coliseum.

Hull looked set for a big win when Richard Whiting, Shayne McMenemy and Kirk Yeaman propelled them into an 18-0 lead midway through the first half.

But Leigh mounted a spirited fightback and actually led in the closing stages until Nathan Blacklock's late leveller.

The hosts' best spell came just before the interval when Rob Jackson and Steve Maden scored within five minutes.

Leigh continued their momentum into the second half, but were reduced to 12 men after 45 minutes when Mark Leafa was sin-binned for a late challenge.

Despite the disadvantage, Rob Smyth dived on to Jason Duffy's kick to put the home side ahead.

But they could not hang on, Hull grabbing a share of the points through Blacklock with only two minutes remaining.

Leigh coach Darren Abram:
"I have expressed my views to the match commissioner and hopefully he will take it forward.

"We were prepared to defend the Hull scrum, make two tackles and the game would have been over, but the referee Steve Ganson said it was a handover.

"That could send us down and could cost people jobs. It is frustrating when decisions like that go against us."

Hull coach John Kear:
"I watched eight of Leigh's previous games and have seen them improve as the season has gone on.

"They are getting more confident and gaining self-belief. When they got a sniff of victory, they came at us.

"Leigh deserved an upset against us, in all honesty, but at least the character of my players shone through and we were able to clinch a point in the end."
