The Welsh stand-off scored a solitary try, a drop goal and five spot kicks as his side drew level with Halifax on 12 points. The result was the worst possible start for the Blue Sox's new boss, Tony Anderson, brought in to curtail the side's dire recent run.
It was the hosts who declared their intentions first, captain Brett Goldspink cautioned for a high tackle on Nathan Wood after only six minutes. Briers was on target with the subsequent penalty. Jamie Bloem immediately levelled the scores with a penalty of his own, after the Wolves defence were penalised for straying offside. Briers once again nudged his side in front with the game's opening try, pouncing over the line from close range. Halifax, though, ended the half more strongly, inspired by the introduction of Jamie Thackray and Paul Davidson.
And it was Davidson who pulled his side back into the contest with a try in the 35th minute. The home side went into the break 10-8 in front as Shayne McMenemy burrowed his way through Warrington's defence on the stroke of half-time. It was left to the boot of Briers to level the scores straight after the restart and he added a further point with the conversion of Darren Burns' try. Westwood launched the attack for Warrington but laid off to Burns in the tackle, who made no mistake carrying the ball over the line. Briers added another penalty and a drop goal before Davidson ensured a tense finish with a late try for Halifax.
