Vowles to coach Wildcats
Current Leeds player Adrian Vowles
Vowles only moved to Leeds in 2001
BBC Sport Online has learned that Leeds forward Adrian Vowles is poised to take over as player-coach of struggling Wakefield.

The appointment is set to be confirmed in the next couple of days, with Wildcats prop Chris Feather possibly moving to Headingley as part of the deal.

The 31-year-old Vowles was thought to be having talks with the Wildcats on Wednesday about joining the club.

Vowles only moved to the Rhinos in 2001 after turning his back on Castleford.

But he has failed to command a regular starting spot in the first team and has been tempted by the vacancy at Belle Vue.

Wakefield have been without a coach since they parted company with Peter Roe earlier in July and are in danger of relegation from Super League.

Roe's former assistant, Shane McNally, has been in temporary charge and helped steer the club to a valuable win at London at the weekend.

Australian McNally, who was head coach of the Northern Territory Institute of Rugby League and formerly a member of the Queensland coaching staff, has formally applied for the post.

Wakefield chairman Ted Richardson said: "We've still to make a decision about what we are going to do.

"There is a lot of speculation but nothing has been decided yet."
