Hunslet end York Knights coach Dave Woods winning run

York City Knights

Championship One leaders Hunslet beat York City Knights 34-18 at the John Charles Stadium in Leeds to inflict a first defeat for coach Dave Woods.

The Knights dominated much of the game but failed to convert territory into points, while conceding poor tries.

Woods told BBC Radio York: "I'm very disappointed. We were still in the game with 10 minutes to go, but we gifted them too many easy points.

"We've come forward the last couple of weeks and taken a step back today."

He added: "Hunslet are supposed to be the best team in the competition and we did all those things (poorly) and still made it close.

"I see what (my players) do week-in, week-out in training, so I'm really disappointed in what happened out there.

"We weren't outplayed or outmuscled today, it was just little technical things we failed to do."

The Knights now have two weeks before their next league game, with the Northern Rail Nines at Blackpool in between.

"We'll do some video work and then we'll pick a squad to go down to the Nines," Woods added.

"Some blokes who need a run will get a run in the reserves and hopefully we'll be back the week after, ready to go."

Woods explained what he is looking for from the last four league games.

"Just consistency," he said. "It's about doing what we're doing at training and bringing that into the game.

"If we do that, we'll get that consistency and the wins will come."
