Dave Woods in talks to strengthen York City Knights

York City Knights coach Dave Woods has said he may still bring in some more players before the end of the season to strengthen the squad.

Woods has some long-term injury concerns and he told BBC Radio York: "We're happy with what we've got.

"But I think a couple more players to come in to freshen things up and put some pressure on the others is good for the team and for the squad.

"We're speaking to a couple at the moment so we'll see if that comes off."

Meanwhile player-assistant coach Chris Thorman could return for the Championship One game against Doncaster.

Woods added: "Although the physio says he won't be right until Hunslet, Chris Thorman trained the other night and trained really well. He's confident he'll be ready."

Chris Clough will also come into contention after being 18th man at Gateshead following a four-match suspension.

Woods said that, with those players returning, the three players that made their debuts last week - Davy Burns, Scott Woods and Ed Smith - might not retain their places.

"They all did well and handled themselves well," said Woods.

"They were nervous but they all did something special for themselves.

"But they may not play again this week because of the players we've got coming back. They may slip back to reserve grade, so we'll see what happens at the time."
