York City Knights beat Gateshead on Dave Woods debut
Coach Dave Woods won promotion with Gateshead in 2008
York City Knights marked Dave Woods debut as coach with a 60-12 win at Gateshead in Championship One.
The Knights led 34-0 at half-time, Lee Waterman scored a hat-trick while Tom Lineham and Jack Lee chipped in with two tries each.
Woods told BBC Radio York: "It was good to get the first win but I'm just a bit disappointed with the second half.
"It was close to nearly being perfect, we never gave a penalty away till the 36th minute."
He added: "We just said the first half means nothing unless they finish the second half because it's easy to go into half-time with a good lead, good sides push on with it and we didn't do that, unfortunately."
Next Sunday, the Knights entertain Doncaster who beat Rochdale 30-20, and Woods says they need to win such games to ensure they achieve at least a promotion play-off place.
"Everything's in our own hands, we need to make sure we do the job for ourselves."
