York City Knights have allowed prop Mark Applegarth to leave in order for him to play in Australia. The 25-year-old will join Temora Dragons in New South Wales after previously being linked with the club. Knights general manager Ian Wilson said: "We have agreed to release Mark in order that he can fulfil an ambition of playing down under. "We now feel that the time is right as the prop forwards in the first team squad are all playing well." He added: "We also have Alex Benson and Davey Burns in the squad. Mark leaves with our very best wishes. " Applegarth spent three seasons with the Knights after moving to the club from Wakefield in 2008. Another forward, Carl Barrow has also been allowed to leave to move back to the amateur game in York. He is expected to link up with Summer Conference club York Lokomotive before re-joining former club New Earswick All Blacks. Wilson said: "Carl had an excellent pre-season and was hoping for a big year but work commitments have meant that he has been unable to sustain these standards and following talks we have agreed to allow him to return to the amateur game. "Carl also leaves with our best wishes and no doubt he will continue to support the club and his former team mates."
