Rooney was pivotal in Raiders qualification for the Grand Final |
Barrow Raiders boosted their Super League bid by qualifying for the Championship Grand Final thanks to a 35-12 win over Halifax on Thursday. Reaching the league's showpiece game is vital towards application with coach Dave Clark telling BBC Radio Cumbria he was delighted with the achievement. "We're in the final now and it's a pleasing thing for the club," said Clark following the victory. "It's fantastic to get to a second grand final." It was Raiders first win against Fax for 25 years, helped by tries for James Nixon, Andy Ballard, Ned Catic and Andy Bracek, while stand-off Jamie Rooney showed great form with the boot, kicking seven goals and a drop goal, also creating further opportunities. And Clark was delighted with the display from the on-loan Wakefield half-back. | 606: DEBATE |
"He's a clever player, a very experienced player and he leads by the front," added Clark. "He's been training really hard this week, he knew it was a big game and he's really important for us, what he does kicking wise and what he does directing the play around the field. "But you could pick out any player tonight, no-one let themselves down and it was a great team effort by everybody."
