Cullen pleased with final berth

Paul Cullen
Cullen has seen big improvements in his side in recent weeks

Widnes coach Paul Cullen was delighted with his side as they beat Halfiax 27-22 on Sunday to reach the final of the Northern Rail Cup.

The Viking coach believes it was their most encouraging showing this year.

"That was an inspirational performance from our players," Cullen told BBC Radio Merseyside after the game.

"One to 17 - they all brought their A-game. That's the best some of them have played in the black and white and I'm delighted with that response."

Cullen added: "They've earned a few days off now and we'll be back in on Sunday morning for a tough conditioning session before we play Doncaster.

"Then we'll get ourselves ready for the final of the Northern Rail and what's left of the Championship as we try to improve even more to get to the grand final."
