Whitehaven were sent tumbling to a 28-24 defeat by a resurgent Sheffield Eagles in the Championship at the Don Valley Stadium on Saturday. The Marras were always just short of the lead against an Eagles side that had already beaten leaders Halifax. Scrum-half Gregg McNally, wing Paul Ballard, loose Scott McAvoy and second-rower Spencer Miller scored the tries. McNally's accurate kicking also ensured Haven remained in touch with the points to gain a bonus point.
