Gateshead recorded their first win of the season with a thumping 44-18 Northern Rail Cup defeat of Sheffield at the International Stadium on Sunday.

Thunder led just 16-12 at the break, but were irresistible afterwards to complete a resounding scoreline.

Half-back Luke Branighan was again at the heart of the win with a try and six conversions, while second rower Dylan Nash top-scored with three tries.

The win leaves Thunder with a win and a defeat in their NRC group.
