Knights keen on trialist Waterman

Paul March sees Waterman as cover at full-back

York City Knights coach Paul March is keen to offer trialist Lee Waterman a contract after he impressed in the pre-season games.

The 21-year-old full-back from amateurs Skirlaugh will tour with the British Amateur Rugby League Association national team later this year.

As a result March told BBC Radio York the player will play on amateur forms.

"Once he gets back from the tour we'll start talking to him and we'll see if we can put a deal together," he said.

"He doesn't want to commit just at the minute to a contract.

"He's on an amateur form which will allow him to play with us but still keep his amateur status which is working out well for both us and him.

"Once he gets back from the BARLA tour obviously we'll start talking to him and we'll see if we can put a deal together.

"But I'm sure once he has been on the that tour other clubs will be sniffing around him. Hopefully his time with us already will stand us in good stead to sign him."
