York City Knights will play their first pre-season friendly against a York Select team in memory of their former player Lee McTigue. McTigue was 29-years-old when he died after a battle with cancer in 2007. The club and McTigue's family have agreed to split the proceeds between two charities, the York City Knights Foundation and XIII Heroes. "The Knights are delighted to be able to support two fantastic causes," said general manager Ian Wilson. The Knights Foundation organises coaching sessions and festivals to more than 3000 North Yorkshire school children each year, while XIII Heroes provides financial assistance to rugby league players and their families who have suffered through disability or death. York City Knights are expected to give most of their first-team squad a run out in the friendly, while the York Select team will be made up of the top amateur players from the area. The game kicks off on Sunday, 18 January at the Huntington Stadium at 1500 GMT.
