Uncapped Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid believes he has the potential to become a genuine England all-rounder.
The 20-year-old will fly to the West Indies on Tuesday as part of England's 16-man squad for the four-Test tour.
Rashid outlined his potential in 2008 when he finished as the leading English spinner with 63 first-class wickets, as well as hitting a career-best 111.
"I see myself as an all-rounder - a genuine all-rounder," said Rashid, a former England under-19 international.
"I feel that even when I bat lower down for Yorkshire I take the responsibility on my shoulders.
"In the last couple of seasons I've scored quite a few fifties, I've scored hundreds and it helps to do well with the bat.
"It's important to get your first first-class hundred, or even Test hundred, because once you've got that in the bank, you feel more relaxed and you know you can do it."
With Graeme Swann impressing during England's tour to India in December, Rashid is unlikely to get the nod ahead of the Nottinghamshire off-spinner or left-armer Monty Panesar.
And the Bradford-born Rashid remains realistic about his Test debut aspirations in the Caribbean.
"I'm going there to enjoy it and playing would come as a big bonus," he said.
"Obviously we have Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar and they are two great spinners, world-class bowlers.
"It will be tough to get into the team, but if I do get the chance I will try to perform."
