Knights struggle with injuries

York City Knights have severe injury problems ahead of Sunday's trip to Gateshead Thunder.

Player-coach Paul March is one of the doubts for the game and he told BBC Radio York he has just 18 fit players to select from.

"I didn't train on Tuesday. I picked up a pretty bad dead leg on Saturday.

"I'm 60% ready to play but there's no-one else to come in at the minute. So we're going to go with what we've got and the troops will battle through it."

Full-back Danny Ratcliffe will definitely miss the game. He will have an X-ray early next week to see if he has broken his wrist.

March said: "Obviously if he has it's a season-long injury. But hopefully he hasn't and he'll be back playing within a week or two."

Lee Maples is expected to cover for Ratcliffe and Matt Danville will return on the wing.

Rob Spicer will be fit despite being concussed in Saturday's game at London Skolars.

Meanwhile March said his brother David could be fit by next weekend. He was taken to hospital two weeks ago with damaged ribs and spleen.

"David is looking good. He trained on Tuesday night although it was only a light session. He's a major doubt for this week still. If he puts his hand up he'll go straight back in to the starting line up.

"If not he'll have a good week under his belt and then look forward to the week after."
