David March played for 20 minutes against Barrow with a broken rib |
York City Knights loose forward David March has been released from York Hospital after a major injury scare. The 28-year-old coughed up blood and collapsed at the end of Sunday's 29-20 National Two defeat by Barrow. It was feared he had a punctured lung, but they now believe he has broken a rib and damaged his spleen. "He told me during the game he thought he had bust a rib but, credit to him, he played on," said his twin brother and Knights player-coach Paul March. Assistant-coach James Ratcliffe added: "It happened around the 60th minute, but that's the kind of kid David is. He's put his hand up and played the last 20 [minutes] because he knows we're after a result. | He's a lot better than he was and he's coming home today York City Knights player-coach Paul March |
"[After the final whistle] the adrenaline stopped... and he just realises how much it hurts him and he just collapsed."
At Monday lunchtime, Paul said: "He's a lot better than he was and they have just rung me from the hospital to say he's coming home today. "They haven't actually said what it was but last night they were talking about a broken rib and a bit of damage to the spleen."
