York City Knights trialist Danny Grice impressed on his debut in their win over Hunslet Hawks.

The stand-off scored a try in the 34-6 victory which kept the Knights in sixth place in National League Two.

Knights assistant coach James Ratcliffe told BBC Radio York: "I've just spoken to Danny and said 'you now become an option to the first team'.

"He looked like he was quite comfortable, as if he'd been there all season to be fair."

The game also marked a return from injury for loose forward David March.

And Ratcliffe said: "Dave trained Tuesday night for 40 minutes then on Thursday night for an hour and a half.

"The calf which was troublesome to him played up a little bit so we kept him off his feet on Friday but he put his hand up after a fitness test and said 'yes I'm good to go'.

"It's the unselfish bits that he does well. He doesn't go around asking for plaudits, he goes about his business really well."

The victory against Hunslet saw a marked improvement on the performance last week at Rochdale and Ratcliffe was happier with what he'd seen.

"A good performance defensively, that's what we were looking for. We came up with the goods not allowing Hunslet to get over the line.

"We'd got to give Hunslet the respect they deserved. They do a lot of really good things both on the floor, with the ball in hand and defensively as well.

"We knew it was a matter of time. That's why we kept running the penalties, just wearing them down on a really warm day.

"They defended 22 sets in the first half, we only defended seven so its come back and haunted them in the second half."
