Whitehaven held off bottom-place Dewsbury after a scrappy game at the Recreation Ground on Sunday. The visitors took an early lead with a Liam Finn penalty, but a converted Graeme Mattinson try gave Haven a narrow lead they never surrendered. The Rams closed the gap to two points with a Smith try, converted by Finn. But further tries from Calvert, McNally and Miller, together with goals from Rudd and Manihera saw Whitehaven home 24-16. Dewsbury remain at the bottom of National League One with eight points, while Whitehaven sit in sixth place with 16 points. Only three points separate Whitehaven from fifth-placed Sheffield Eagles, whom they meet on Friday 11 July at the Don Valley Stadium (20:00 BST).
