Carmelo Anthony had 33 points for Syracuse |
Syracuse Orangemen will face the Kansas Jayhawks in the final of the NCAA Tournament on Monday after both won their semi-finals on Saturday. Syracuse beat the Texas Longhorns 95-84 to reach the final for the third time.
They will meet Kansas after they romped to a 94-61 win over the Marquette Golden Eagles.
Carmelo Anthony was the star for Syracuse, shooting 33 points and hauling down 14 rebounds in a strong display.
Syracuse led by as many as nine points in the first half and never trailed, taking a 48-45 lead into the break.
"Our confidence is pretty high right now," Anthony said.
"We made it to the championship. It don't get any better than this, playing in a championship game. The Final Four is the biggest event ever besides the Super Bowl," he said.
The Jayhawks were led by Keith Langford who scored 23 points while Kirk Hinrich and Aaron Miles added 18 each as their overwhelmed the Golden Eagles.
Kansas were never behind against the Golden Eagles, taking a 59-30 half-time lead.
Williams is hoping to win his first NCAA title |
"We did a great job," coach Roy Williams said. "I feel very, very fortunate and very, very pleased. I do think every coach has big-time dreams.
"If you're a coach at Kansas with Nick Collison, Kirk Hinrich on your team, you should have big-time dreams.
"We're going to try and work as hard as we possibly can to see if we can make those dreams come true."
The results mean coaching legends and off-court friends Jim Boeheim and Williams will pit their wits against each other in the final on Monday. Neither has won the title.
