Kentucky, the Midwest Region's top seed, had little trouble in a 74-54 win over ninth-seeded Utah 74-54, while Texas, number one in the South Region, beat ninth-ranked Purdue 77-67 to move to the last 16.

But in another surprise result, Auburn stunned Wake Forest 68-62 to move into the third round in the East Regional, while number seven Michigan State defeated Florida 68-46 in the South Region.
Meanwhile, defending national champions Maryland also progressed with a 77-64 win over Xavier in the South Region.
In other second-round play, Pittsburgh trounced Indiana 74-52 in Midwest Region, while in the East Region, third seed Syracuse fought back to triumph 68-56 against Oklahoma State.
