Herridge in action before her injury in 2009 |
Guernsey triathlete Sam Herridge has enjoyed a positive start to the 2010 season with promising performances in her first two races. Herridge won a warm-up event in Steyning, completing the 400m swim, 18.5km cycle and 5km run in 56:35. The Sarnian then went on to finish 13th in her first elite race of the year at Blenheim Palace. Herridge was forced to sit out the majority of the 2009 season because of chronic Achilles Tendonitis. The race at Blenheim Palace was part of the British Triathlon Super Series, with a 750m swim, 19.8km cycle course and 5.4km run. Herridge faced some tough competition at the event with World under-23 medallist and talented youngster Abbie Thorrington amongst the field. She said: "I was a little disappointed with the result, but after chatting to the coach, the main aim was to get into the lead pack on the swim and the main pack on the bike, both of which I managed to do. "I just now have to consolidate on the run, and try and bring that up to the same standard over the next couple of months." The next event for Herridge is the Bananaman Time Trial Triathlon on 11 July.
