Triathlete sets new PB in Florida

Tom Davey
Davey approaches the finish line at the end of the Ironman race

Cornish triathlete Tom Davey has returned from the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Florida with a new personal best over the distance.

Davey finished the course in 04:17:07, after completing the 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run.

The Bodmin-based triathlete told BBC Sport the race at Clearwater Beach was a fantastic experience.

"I couldn't have gone any quicker and felt totally drained at the finish - I had pushed myself as hard as I could."

Davey has been training full-time in triathlon since graduating from Loughborough University in August 2008.

He qualified for the World Championships by coming second in the 18-24 age group at the UK Ironman 70.3 on Exmoor in June.

Davey finished in 217th place overall in Florida out of 1500 competitors, which put him 19th in his age group (18-24).
