Jersey's Craig Gascoyne won the title in 2008 and 2009 |
Jersey's Craig Gascoyne is looking to defend his Channel Island Open Top 12 title in Guernsey on Saturday. It is the first tournament under a new format agreed by the two islands, allowing junior players to compete. Gascoyne, who has won the event in each of the past two years, goes into the event already a point clear of his Guernsey rivals. He was unbeaten in the Jersey heats while the top three Guernsey players lost a match each in qualifying. Jersey Table Tennis Association president Chris Band said: "Craig is playing exceptionally well at the moment and is very keen to retain his title. "He will certainly be made to work very hard though as Garry Dodd and Ollie Langlois in particular will be all guns blazing for a win on Guernsey soil."
