Darius Knight and Alice Loveridge won the singles titles at the Six Nations International table tennis tournament held on the Isle of Man at the weekend. England's Darius Knight overcame teammate Chris Doran 11-7 12-10 8-11 11-9 to lift the men's title. Meanwhile, Guernsey's Alice Loveridge beat England's Emma Vickers 11-4 11-8 9-11 11-6 to lift her first senior title in the women's competition. England won the men's, women's and combined team competitions. The team of Darius Knight, Chris Doran, Emma Vickers and Lauren Spink remained unbeaten throughout. | It was a very high standard of competition and the Manx team acquitted themselves very well |
There was little joy for the Manx team who did not win a match but IOMTTA chairman David Stevenson told BBC Isle of Man they have all gained valuable experience. Stevenson said: "All the Manx players performed to their best and the experience they have gained from playing some of Europe's leading players should prove invaluable." The Isle of Man gave senior debuts to Mason McLarney, 15 and Rebecca Bayley, 17 in the competition. "Both Mason and Rebecca performed brilliantly and are both very exciting for the future of the sport on the Island," added Stevenson. Despite losing in the first round, Bayley went on to win the women's consolation final.
