McGuinness has 15 TT wins, one more than Mike Hailwood |
Morecambe racer John McGuinness has signed for the official Honda team for the 2011 TT and says he is determined to add to his 15 event wins. He told BBC Isle of Man: "I am good enough and the bike will be good enough. So if lady luck is with us we will have a good chance." The 38-year-old is the second most successful rider in the event's history behind the legendry Joey Dunlop. McGuinness will also ride for the Honda team at the North West 200. Honda manager Neil Tuxworth said: "We are very happy to continue to work with John for a fifth consecutive year. "He is the most successful and well known TT rider of his generation and a tremendous ambassador for the team." McGuinness will represent Honda in both the Superbike and Superstock races. The 38-year-old racer added: "This year's TT was the first in a decade that I haven't stood on the podium, so I need to put that right." "But for a couple of problems I feel I could have won couple this year but it wasn't to be. "I can't let my TT career fizzle out - I want to go out on a high and that means winning." McGuinness' 15th victory came in the opening Superbike race in 2009. The victory took him one ahead of the great Mike Hailwood. The late Joey Dunlop holds the record for TT wins with 26 victories. Scotland's Keith Amor will also ride for Honda at the 2011 TT.
