Adlington enjoys 800m freestyle win in Glasgow

Double Olympic champion Adlington added the 800m title to her 200m win

Rebecca Adlington won comfortably in the 800m freestyle at the British Gas Scottish Swimming Championships in Tollcross, Glasgow.

The 21-year-old double Olympic champion, who won the 200m freestyle on the opening night, led from start to finish, touching in a time of 8:35.76.

Megan Gilchrist overhauled Jessica Thielmann at the halfway stage to finish in second place in 8:41.61.

Thielmann was more than 10 seconds adrift in 8:51.92.

Robbie Renwick claimed the 100m freestyle title (50.67), Commonwealth record holder Thomas Haffield won the 400m individual medley (4:20.54) and Louise Pate took the 100m butterfly (1:00.53).

The meeting, which includes a number of guest swimmers, also doubles as Commonwealth qualifying for the Scots.
