Ajulu-Bushell was born in England to an English mother |
Plymouth swimmer Achieng Ajulu-Bushell has been given permission to compete for Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics. The 16-year-old represented Kenya at last year's World Championships before deciding to switch nationality. The International Olympic Committee has now ruled that Ajulu-Bushell can represent her adopted country at the London Games. Ajulu-Bushell won the women's 50m breaststroke at the British Championships in Sheffield last month. Born in Manchester to an English mother and Kenyan father, Ajulu-Bushell moved to Africa before returning in September 2007 and enrolling at Plymouth College, where she is a class-mate of diving world champion Tom Daley. Plymouth College director of swimming Jon Rudd said: "This is fantastic news for Achieng and the last piece of the jigsaw after FINA [the International Swimming Federation] granted permission for her to compete in all other international events from 1 August this year. "We can now have a very clear focus into London 2012."
