GB swim squad named for Montreal

British Swimming's national performance director Bill Sweetenham has announced an 18-strong squad for next month's World Championships in Montreal.

Swimmers had to post a time equal to or better than last year's world top-10 ranking in Olympic events or top-six ranking in non-Olympic events.

James Gibson and Katy Sexton will defend their 50m breaststroke and 200m backstroke world titles respectively.

Ex-world champion Mark Foster missed out after failing to get the times.


Great Britain team

Men: 50m breaststroke; Chris Cook, James Gibson, 100m breaststroke; Darren Mew, 50m backstroke; Liam Tancock, 100m backstroke; James Goddard, 200m backstroke; Gregor Tait, 400m freestyle; David Carry, 1500m freestyle; David Davies.

Women: 50m breaststroke; Kate Haywood; 100m breaststroke: Haywood, Kirsty Balfour, 200m backstroke; Katy Sexton, 200m freestyle; Melanie Marshall, 400m freestyle; Caitlin McClatchey, Joanne Jackson, 800m freestyle; Rebecca Cooke, Relays: Gemma Spofforth, Rosalind Brett, Julia Beckett.
